Immediately after the first collection Four characters in the first act and the exhibition curated by Marco Sammicheli in 2017, Camp Design Gallery and Adam Nathaniel Furman started thinking of writing a new chapter in their collaboration with Abet La- minati. “That was the moment when we began to think of launching our vision and project on an international level and Design Miami Basel seemed the ideal stage to us. An independent art gallery, a company with a long-lasting tradition in manufactu- ring decorative plastic laminate and a visionary artist: a perfect trio that could inspire a new design vision”, says Beatrice Bianco of Camp Design Gallery.

Three characters in the second act is a collection commissioned by Camp Design Gallery which stages three pieces of furniture with clumsy names and unusual shapes: two large cabinets, Benevolente and Solidale, and a chair, Gioioso, handmade by expert wood and metal craftsmen who took care of every single detail in creating a collec- tion with a high technical content.

Adam Nathaniel Furman explains the collection: “Three characters in the second act is a vision of the home as a court of domestic deviance played out through the ecstatic surfaces of a bourgeois’ nightmare.” The project focuses on contempora- ry collectible design and each piece generates its presence through intriguing and unusual shapes and the deployment of intricately patterned surfaces made using digitally printed Abet laminate.

It is not by chance that Adam Nathaniel Furman has chosen Abet laminate. The company based in Bra (Piedmont) has always nurtured the dialogue with the design world by supporting artistic movements. It is the expressive strength of this material that attracted Adam Nathaniel Furman and that enabled him to create his unique projects where form takes second place to the power of decoration. A new challenge has been set that looks at the future without neglecting the past.
